Arima Onsen is close to Kobe, but has a nice countryside feel about it. Our room was much larger than expected, the staff were attentive and friendly, and the onsen was very good, with the famous Arima golden water (salty and with high iron content). A nice detail in the onsen was that the gender seperating wall was lower at the end, enabling a conversation with my wife. The food was also very good, we stayed 2 nights and had 1 night dinner and breakfast in our room (for an extra charge). The ryokan also offers a free shuttle to the Arima Ropeway and to the railway station. The salon was also nice with free coffee and lots of books and a high-end tube amplifier. The building is wooden and old, so expect to hear some noise from your neighbours, but nothing too bad.

Love the onsen (high salt content and relaxing)! There is a section that is open air too (rotenburo). This hotel is over 900 years old and is the oldest one in Arima (built in 1100). You can feel a special vibe of serenity while staying at the hotel. The food was amazing! (We had kaiseki dinner and formal Japanese breakfast.) They don’t serve food in the room though so you have to go to the restaurant. The staff were all very friendly, gentle and helpful. My daughter got mosquito bites and they gave us anti-itch cream. They would help you with all luggages and I believe they cleaned the wheels before putting them in the room! The hotel can give you a lift to the bus stop for you to take a bus straight to Shin-Kobe station.

We spent here a couple of days in November. It was our first time in ryokan with onsen and it was amazing! Nice location in the center of the city. Onsen is inside the hotel so you can use it anytime you want. Staff is very friendly and ready to help around the clock. There were Japanese clothes called yukata; you can wear it inside the hotel. No breakfast at the hotel, but we ordered Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. A bit expensive in my opinion, but it's worth a try. Delicious, unique and very satisfying. Thank you for that unique unforgettable experience. I would strongly recommend visiting this hotel.

I was trying to figure out what you are paying such a premium for here and it really comes down to two things: 1) Location - all throughout our stay in Arima we saw people dragging their luggage up steep hills in the heat to the hotels up above the town. It looked very unpleasant. This place is right at the bottom of the hill, nestled in among the shops, very easy to get to. 2) I counted the steps from my room to the onsen: thirty-five. We were so close to the famous soothing Arima gold water. It was great. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Chris

The hospitality was truly exceptional and the rooms were nice and cosy, albeit a tad old fashioned but I guess that's also kind of the point. The Kiseki meals were of course really delicious, and worth every space of our tummies. The onsen facility was very well maintained. The view could be better but otherwise an impeccable place to stay when in Arima. Also, the hotel is right next to the bus station which is so convenient! Would highly recommend to friends and family!
